Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and will soon be in the
market for a new travel trailer, my tow vehicle is a 1/2ton and I don’t plan on
replacing it anytime soon. We are looking at bunkhouse models and the CT27BHX
is a TT we are considering. My only issue is the published hitch weight. Out of
all the cruiser TT it is the shortest and the lightest (dry weight) but the
hitch weight is 150lbs more than any other current model. I am wondering if
anyone can confirm or explain those numbers? Any owners of this particular model? I might have to forget about the
Cruiser line and get the Sunset Trail with 200lbs less hitch weight. Thanks |

I personally went with the ST because of this reason. Hitch weight is everything for these 1/2 tons, most are rated to pull upwards of 10,000lbs today, but the payload is of most importance. I know the ST will cost you a little more money but well worth it in my opinion!

I don't have anything, this will be my first TT. My tow vehicle is a Ram 1500 just like Kagex. I was leaning towards the Cruiser for the bigger axles, Aluminum "Gorilla" Structure and Polar Package insulation, plus I liked the outside door for the washroom. I might have to rethink this... ST26BH would be my second choice.

I may tend to be a little conservative but that seems like a lot of trailer weight for a half ton pickup. There has been a lot of conversations on this blog on towability with half tons. One common thread was that just because it can be done, should it be done? Also, I have seen in the past where the TT did not pull well with a 1/2 ton and forced an upgrade. $$$$$$$.
One last thing. You have to ask yourself how the trailer is going to be used. If it is going to be pulled to a place for the season, that is one thing but if you are going to be road tripping a lot then that is another. Good luck. |

I have also been looking at the CT27BHX for my family. Most of the trailers listed online are showing incorrect data of a Hitch Weight of 940 lbs. I have the newer brochure and also email confirmation from Kris at Crossroads that the correct Hitch Weight is 722 lbs. We are trying to figure out what the hitch weight might increase to with full water, propane, 2 batteries, and storage added in.
