I have a 08 32 SB TT.  One of my Lippert axles was changed two years ago.  The minor issue is that now I have one axle with easy lub grease zerks and one wheel with "pack yourself" bearings.  Has anyone changed out the pack yourself to the grease zerks in the bearing arrangement?  If yes - where did you get the kit - and what was the process.   I suspect I can do it myself if I had the parts.
Any help will be appreciated.
PS:  I do not want the dust cap with the zerk - I want the one that is part of the bearing assembly so when you grease the bearing the old grease is forced out of the bearing.

You are much better off with packing your own the the easy lube, take out seals and grease up your brakes set up.

It sounds from your statement that the replacement axle did not come with the "E-Z Lube" spindle made by Dexter.  If that is the case then you are commited to pulling the wheels off the replacement axle and repacking the the bearings by hand.   It's messy, but is as good or better than the E-Z Lube system.

Darrell,

I agree with CWIT & HAMOPS.

Thanks to having Easy Lube Axles I just spent a few days cleaning the grease out of all four brake drums. All of the rear seals allowed grease to blow by into the electric brake components. Clean up was a pain. When the Easy Lube Hub is filled with grease and then spun at 65 MPH the centrifugal force has to be tremendous. I assume this is why the manual suggests an inspection every year.

Here is an article on re-packing and the Lippert Manual:

http://www.rv-life-and-travel.com/wheel-bearings.html

If you do take on this project, there have been some current posts concerning loose suspension hardware and brake adjustment.

(Thank you Forum Members for your suggestions while I completed my bearing work)

When I packed my bearings manually, I examined the way the ezlube gets grease to the back bearing.  As I recall, there is a hole in the spindle that goes to the inside bearing.  I don't think just adding the zerk fitting cap will properly lube the inner bearing unless the spindle is drilled for it.  Something to check for.....

Mine is currently in the shop because I burn out one wheel bearing the wheel was almost off the trailer before I could get off the interstate.  Had to have roadside service assist me.  I have to replace the brake system on that wheel.  Awaiting cost now.Cry

Grease on brake shoes:
After the rear seals could no longer hold back all of the grease associated with the EZ Lub system; I fully cleaning the brakes and hubs, replaced the rear seals and repacked the bearings. The bearings are running cool but the brakes grab. I suspect that my attempt in removing the impregnated grease from the brake shoes failed. Can the shoes be saved? OR do I need to replace them?
Thanks in advance... Kamper Dave

Normally, once the brake material gets grease or oil on them you can't clean them.  You can sand them down if it's just a small spot of grease but if it's a mess then you need to replace them.

our 2007 has had a axle replaced  didnt come with ez lube, which is a good thing, have our bearings repacked by hand anyway as part of routine maintenance to may problems with real seals leaking into brakes with ez lube

you cant add the zerk to the end of the axle unless it has the cotter pin hole that goes alongside the hole not thru it as the normal arrangemnt will not allow grease thru it
