I have a 2006 CF29RE 32.5' Cruiser Fifth Wheel:
I need a more powerful battery, mine seems to go dead too easy ... I looked up my present battery & it is a 12V ... Thought I had a 6V?? Want to get a Duracell gulf cart battery, but need to know what Volt to get?? Help!! |

I have "two" 6V Trojan batteries. You probably have room to do the same thing. You will need another battery box, and you will have to either make up new cables yourself or have someone make them for you. Word of advise---don't skimp on the gauge of wire for the new cables and make sure the ends are soldered on good.

So did you put another battery box in just like the one that came with the RV, or go with a new box that will hold two....

Wellll, now that's another story. I wasn't aware of that double box at the time, so I bought another similar to what was in there. When I was installing one of those Trojan's, my clamp slipped and the battery crushed the box.  So I made my own out of 3/8 plywood and used the covers from the plastic boxes. |

I would suggest considering this box:
It is much more substantial than the original. You would just need to make sure the batteries you purchase will fit it. I bought one of these boxes for the 2 - 6volt batteries I have. I closed up the drain hole that CR cut in the bottom of the storage compartment and installed this box over the patch. I connected the vent hose to the new box and put a battery acid absorbing mat in the bottom of the battery box.

While two, 6 Volt batteries will work fine, I opted for two 12V batteries. The issue that you need to think about is ampere-hours, not voltage. Both types of batteries can provide about the same amp-hrs, so there isn't much difference that way. I have two 12V for the simple reason that if one battery fails, I'll still have 12V power. I can easily disconnect the faulty battery and still have the other battery available to provide my 12V services. With two 6V batteries, you won't have that luxury. If one of the 6V batteries fails, then you have a problem that will need to address asap.

I have nothing against AGM valve regulated batteries but they will never have the longevity of the wet cell battery. The only thing that an AGM has going for it, is that you can hang them upside down and they'll work. They are a lot more costly than a wet cell battery of equivalent capacity. I'm not surprised that your existing battery depleted quickly. Unless you isolate your battery at the battery, it'll be dead within a week. There are loads in you trailer that continue to drain battery. One device is the gas detector.
