My wife and I bought a Coleman RoadTrip portable gas grill, model 9949A. It is collapsible and we thought it would work great for us. We brought it home and I got an extension hose to connect up the quick-connect on the trailer to the grill. The problem I've found is because the grill uses bottles, I had to hook the other end of the quick-connect up to the regulator on the gas grill...the problem wiith that is it "double regulates" the amount of gas coming out. The connection to the gas grill, in other words to bypass the regulator, is not normal. Does anyone know if there is a way to bypass these regulators...I contacted Coleman but they weren't much help. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I do not have a coleman but a weber still much the same idea. I have a one gallon bottle and a hose that connects bottle on one end and bbq on the other. It give me a lot of flexibility on using the bbq.

I took the regulator off of my Weber q120, then took the quick disconnect hose off of the slide out grill on my sunset trail, then used a coupling to join the hose to my grill. Now i just connect my grill to the gas port on the side of the trailer and it works great

I ran into the same problem with my small grill, the flame adjustment is on the bottle connector and no way to bypass it. I just carry a couple of the small bottles and go on.
If you just bought it take it back and get one that has the flame control on the grill itself and a hose to the tank/bottle with the regulator at the bottle. Then you will be OK to eliminate the regulator. |

Tator447--have the exact same problem---have not been able to find a solution yet. I have just about come to the conclusion (as stated previously) use the little bottles when the gas grill gives it up buy the next one with out the flame control on the regulator. If you find something that works please pass it on.

We have the Coleman Roadtrip grill and use the adapter line for the larger 3 or 5 gal tanks. I too, run the propane through both regulators, but without issue. I have plenty of flame to cook as if I used the smaller bottles with only the one regulator.
I think the second regulator doesn't reduce the gas flow if already at the ideal pressure, hence no issues. Are you experiencing a reduction in flame using both?

Bob,
Yes, the flame seems to be much less when hooked up to the trailer connection. With the small bottle on I get a beautiful huge flame. My problem with the Roadtrip is finding a quick connect with the other end that fits this grill, meaning directly with no regulator. But, you say you connect to the trailer and get good pressure...so I'm wondering now...however I do have a good flame on the stove in the trailer so I know I have good pressure there...I wish there was a way to lower or negate the pressure on the Roadtrip's regulator...but I haven't found a way to do that. thanks, Jim

Jim,
I don't believe you will find a direct connector to the grill stem itself, avoiding the bbq regulator. All of the adaptors I 've found mount right to the regulator itself.
Just shocked that you get such a smaller flame or reduced flow. Again, I would think the second regulator wouldn't affect the fuel flow through it if already reduced at the trailer.
You might check to see if there are spider webs or the like that might have affected the regulators.

We pick up on our new ST tomorrow and we were told that the double regulator will not work. So, I too may be looking for a solution that doesn't require carrying the extra green tanks around.
