If everything is tightened up to where it should be-----and the locking nuts/or lock washers are in good shape, I can't see the need for double nutting. What I hate about the double nutting is how it can stretch the threads. Things shouldn't loosen up if your locking washers or lock nuts are in good shape. Now that means "not" reusing the lock nuts, but putting new lock nuts on if you have to take them off. The only way things can come loose other wise is if the bolts are stretching. Which is highly unlikely seeing as they are all hardened stock. Just torque to the given specs. Another alternative would be the use of loctite. A small drop of the blue stuff is all that's needed, and you will still be able to get it apart.
That's my opinion for what ever it's worth. |

Okay, you have convinced me to retorque my suspension. Where do I find the torque values on my 2011 Cruiser CTX 26RKX ? |

I assume that you have Libert axles etc. The link to all of liberts manuals is at the start of this thread, I think I posted it about 3 messages into the thread.

Boomer's update: I started this thread as a result of preparing for a trip from Ottawa Canada to Orlando Florida. My Wife and i have just spent a beautiful month in Florida and are leaving for the 3 day trip back to Ottawa to day.
Yesterday I re- checked all Lug nuts, Spring shackle nuts and Spring U-Bolts, I am glad to say that after 2400 KM ( 1500 Miles) all bolts had maintained their tightness and were still torqued correctly. Edited by Boomer - 15 Apr 2012 at 7:57am |

Thanks a bunch Boomer!!!
I just retorqued all of my suspension and found 4 shackle bolts way under torqued and all my axle U bolts were loose by about 20ft/lbs or more.

Checked all mine this weekend for the trip to the rally and all u-bolts and shackles bolt were within torque specs. Glad to find that out. I would never have thought to check them until I saw this thread. Just always assumed they were tight.

Were headed out for a our first trip tomorrow (just 25 miles) but I'm glad I checked. I have been wanting to pull my wheels to re grease my bearings the last couple weeks and was planning to check all bolts then. Time wasn't on my side but I did a bit of a pre-trip inspection today and checked those bolts. All u bolts were about 1 full turn too loose and one shackle was loose.
Glad I checked!! Good tip. going to check them periodically this summer. |
