Rick -- A friend of mine is a DIE-HARD Ford guy. He says that the new Fords are awsome, especially the new deisels. They (2012) get much better mileage than the deisels of even a year ago, and much more power. Also one of the guys we know from PECO just got a F350 deisel for his work truck and he also says it is awsome. I know you are probably checking all the features out. I just thought you might want the opinion of a guy that drives one on a daily basis. Good luck on your search.

All that and....

Ford did not take any stimulus bucks to stay in business. That is a HUGE consideration. Clap

my mechanic questions the life of the transmission.
Will it hold up under the additional torque?

Walt -- wouldn't that be the same transmission that is in your truck Or is it a new design like the engines

I  think so.
Howevwer, according to my mechanic, the torque is a lot more with the diesel engine.
Makes him wonder why they did not go with an Allison transmission, to handle the  torque.

I could be wrong, but from what I have read I believe the transmission is also upgraded and improved.

My buddy (the Ford nut) informs me that the reason Ford did not go with Allison is they have their own 6-speed transmission. It comes with the deisel, not sure if it also is installed with the high displacement gas engines

I don't know much about the 2012 fords but I have seen a few people complaining about problems w/ the 6.7.   That said, we just bought a new to us 2009 F250 lariat crew cab 6.4 diesel today!Smile
