After a week, much of the painting is done, bedroom ceilings and some touchup remain.  Kitchen cabinets arrive tomorrow.  Also, we now have running water in the house and a faucet in the garage for the Cruiser.

Here is a pic showing part of the kitchen cabinets, ready for painting.  In the background is the room divider that still needs varnish before installation.

Today marks six months since the fire and six months living in the Cruiser.  While we are not quite ready to move into the new house, we should be able to within about two weeks.  Everything will not be finished, but enough so we can at least move in.  Here is a pic of the master bath vanity and the double pocket doors to the shower.

Kitchen and bath countertops should be installed next week, then it will be time to do the final plumbing.  I still need to finish door casings and baseboards, paint touchup and a few lights.  Appliances arrive Monday and Tuesday.  That still leaves cabinet doors/drawers, closet shelves/doors, mirrors, pantry shelves, window sills and door hardware/paint to be done after we move in.  Oh, and install a flat screen TV.

We have starter furniture, "house in a box" donated by one of the charities.  A sofa, full size bed, small table/chairs and a dresser.

Larry
You guys are really moving along with the building.   Can not wait to see the pictures of the whole process at the rally.  I wonder how the rest of the folks in your neighborhood are moving along in their building process.  You guys have been blessed with so much help with the whole process.  The hard work you have put in a lot of work and prayers in to it.  Thanks so much for the updates.

Well, no pics today but still plenty of progress.  Vanity tops are installed, waiting on the faucets to arrive to set the sinks.  We decided to replace the 24" vanity next to the shower with a pedestal sink for more room.  McCoys had a discontinued Crane for $10.59, same model at Lowes was $117.23.  All of the door and base trim is installed but still needs caulking and touchup paint.  Kitchen countertops won't be installed til next week which will give me time to install the dishwasher.  Eileen is very happy to have her own washer/dryer for the first time in 6 months.  Refer and stove are in place and the water heater is operational.  All the pocket doors are hung but two still need latch hardware.

The other good news is that maybe 75% of the Live Oak trees have survived the fire since they are putting out new leaves.  I spent the second day after the fire hauling 5 gal buckets of water to each tree to put out smoldering embers at the trunk, so that certainly helped, plus all the mulch we spread.  But there still will be a lot of dead branches to prune sometime in the future.  Looks like all the trees along the street are dead due to the heat from the blaze across the street.

OK, here is a pic of the kitchen that is almost finished, just lacking faucet, disposal, pantry shelves, window sill and lots of door/drawer pulls.  But tomorrow's work is bathroom plumbing, window sills in the other rooms, room divider top and probably some more staining and varnish work.
